Special Topic -- High Performance Computing Workforce Development
SC10 Special Topic - Workforce Development
The growing use of high performance computing (HPC) in industry and research is driving an increasing demand for practitioners and researchers with expertise in HPC. This trend, coupled with declining enrollments in computing education, is creating an HPC workforce shortage affecting government, industry, and academia. To meet critical workforce needs, more skilled practitioners and researchers need to be trained. SC10's Special Topic on Workforce Development explores issues and solutions in HPC workforce development in depth, focusing on identifying and exploring specific skills and capabilities needed in the HPC workforce, description of new and existing approaches to increase the skilled workforce, discussion of the trends and forces shaping HPC workforce needs, and new education and training approaches over the next 5 to 10 years. The objective is to bring together the community of HPC practitioners, researchers, and educators to explore HPC workforce needs, novel and eff
ective education and training approaches, and identify trends and forces affecting the HPC workforce over the coming decade.
