ABSTRACT:
As the adoption of Load Reduced DIMM (LRDIMM) on majority of DDR3 HPC and server systems is imminent, this presentation seeks to highlight the performance and power benefits of this technology to High Performance Compute (HPC) systems. LRDIMM is a promising technology that alleviates the electrical loading on Memory controller at higher memory capacities. This facilitates the memory subsystem to exploit the full bandwidth potential and scale-up to much higher frequencies even with increased capacity. Higher through-put and capacity have compelling benefits to the HPC applications, otherwise bottle-necked by the above. Yet, LRDIMM accomplishes increased capacity with minimal overhead in a power consumption. This presentation will articulate the benefits of LRDIMM to HPC and Enterprise Servers using measured data for various benchmark applications.
