We examine the possibility of using low power Intel Atom processors as hosts for NVIDIA Tesla GPUs. Comparing Atom hosts to machines based on Intel Xeon processors, we conclude that the Atom does not significantly impact the key metrics of transfer latency and bandwidth, and kernel launch latency. For codes which perform almost all computation on the GPU, Atom-based hosts merit serious consideration.
