The computational performance of magneto-hydro-dynamic (MHD) code is evaluated on several scalar type supercomputer systems and one vector type supercomputer system. We have made performance tuning of a three-dimensional MHD code for space plasma simulations on the SR16000/L2 (POWER6), FX1 (SPARC64VII), HA8000 (Opteron 8356) and SX-9 (vector chip). For parallelization of the MHD code, we use four different methods, i.e., regular one-dimensional, two-dimensional, three-dimensional domain decomposition methods and a cache-hit type of three-dimensional domain decomposition method. We found that the regular three-dimensional decomposition of the MHD model is suitable for HA8000 system, and cache hit type of three-dimensional decomposition is suitable for SR16000/L2 and FX1 systems. Two-dimensional decomposition is best for SX-9. In addition, our code has achieved the good scalability using only MPI for parallel computing in all systems with 8192 cores at maximum.
