SESSION: Exploring Comparative Debugging Use Cases
EVENT TYPE: Birds of a Feather
TIME: 5:30PM - 6:30PM
SESSION LEADER(S):Chris Gottbrath, Mike Ashworth
ROOM:399
ABSTRACT: The TotalView debugger team at Rogue Wave Software is always in conversation with programmers and scientists in the HPC community -- recently quite a number of those discussions have turned to various ways that a running application can be compared with some kind of reference application. This strategy is used when validating code that has been re-factored, modified, ported to a new platform or hardware capability, or that is being modified to be more highly scalable.
This BOF will be a forum and HPC community discussion aimed at getting a broader perspective on different approaches to comparative debugging. Mike Ashworth (STFC Daresbury Laboratory) and Jacob Weismann Poulsen (DMI) will kick off the discussion based on their experiences using comparative techniques. Chris Gottbrath (Rogue Wave Software) will conclude with a demo of a proof-of-concept TotalView CLI script that uses the new ReplayEngine to allow comparative debugging. Anyone in the community is encouraged to attend and join the discussion -- let us know how you do comparative debugging today and how you would like to see tools like TotalView extended to make things easier. Contact Chris.Gottbrath@roguewave.com if you want to present your comparative debugging scenario.
