DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT: This session provides a survey of ways in which computation has become essential to sustaining and advancing contemporary biology. Computational biology underlies the collection\, analysis and visualization of biological data\, in addition to modeling of the function and dynamics of complex biological systems. Examples will be drawn from among the rapidly advancing world of biological macromolecules and biomolecular networks. A number of free tools and software will be demonstrated that can useful in teaching biological concepts\, as well as in teaching the concepts of biological computing.
