DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT: Airflow modeling has proven highly beneficial to optimization of energy efficiency for high-density data centers. The nation’s data center energy consumption\, estimated at 60 billion kWh\, can be expected to cost approximately $4.5 billion and generate approximately 36 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. Data center HVAC and power systems account for 40-50% of typical energy consumption. This presentation will demonstrate how the latest airflow modeling technology can reduce the heavy data center energy liability by precisely forecasting a facility’s overall energy usage\, and pinpointing areas of inefficiency which can then be mitigated. It will also describe how airside economizers can be used as an effective solution to decrease energy consumption\, and how airflow modeling can be applied outside as well as inside a data center to minimize the potential re-entrainment of waste heat\, possible entrainment of cooling tower air\, and the entrainment of generator exhaust back into data center.
