DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: Computational growth  in the conduct of scientific research and development places new responsibilities on the undergraduate physics curriculum where most scientists and engineers receive a foundational part of their technical education. This makes it imperative to examine this curriculum. Evidence points to a need for including a computational formulation of physics concepts as an integral part of courses in both the service and major threads of the curriculum. We will present this evidence and outline elements of traditional physics courses that can and should be modified to bring them into alignment with the demands of employment in the contemporary science and engineering workplace. Computational treatment of dynamical systems provides a concrete context for identifying issues likely to be encountered in such reform. Participants will consider, in the light of their own experiences, elements for formulating reform, issues that arise in trying to modify courses, and strategies for possibly making progress.”
