This session describes the underpinning technologies, the formidable technological challenges solved and advanced technology research being undertaken to push long haul transmission systems into single wave bandwidths to 400G and beyond.=0A=0AThe presentation will detail characteristic impediments of long haul transmission systems, PMD, noise and dispersion. Ciena researchers developed several unique and patented technologies to over come these impairments including development of a coherent receiver, pre-distortion techniques, FEC and application of traditional analogue modulation techniques for high speed optical transmission. The presentation will also include examples of successful collaborative research field trials, and early real-world results.=0A=0AThe presentation also describes a number of forward looking technologies in Ciena’s research labs to accomplish speeds far beyond 100G.
