DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: In collaborative scientific visualization today, sharing high-resolution digital media streams among groups of collaborators at local or remote sites is important. Although these applications run over high speed optical networks, the visualization of multiple streams simultaneously cause performance bottlenecks in the local networks. Here we propose to implement the media composers to compose multiple streams for visualization (here SAGE-based). This technique allows us to stream high quality video over the network without performance bottlenecks and without sacrificing video quality. We extend media composers to run inside the network to optimize network load. A scenario with many media composers distributed throughout the network is envisioned. These media composers will compose the media streams according to the receivers’ requirements and the load balancing objective between the distributed media composers. This work is a part of a project for developing X10-based media composer, awarded by IBM. The work is further supported by HPDMnet.
