DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: This panel summarizes our experiences and lessons learned during an intensive 5-week summer internship program introducing High Performance Computing (HPC) and Scientific Visualization to High School Students funded by the Louisiana Board of Regents. The program was a collaboration between the Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) from Carencro High School and the Visualization group at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During this program, AOIT students were on-site at the UL Lafayette’s Visualization Lab working side-by-side with graduate students and research scientists. Their activities were all team based and included a combination of researching topics about HPC and visualization as well as doing small projects utilizing the same tools the UL Lafayette researchers use in their daily work. The program was successful; the students enjoyed it, while they gained a good understanding of HPC and visualization as a potential career within the STEM areas.
