DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: The global pool of desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices owned by the general public has a computing capability of about 20 ExaFLOPS, growing to 100 ExaFLOPS by 2012. Volunteer computing is a mechanism by which these resources can be used for scientific computing. It is currently being used by 50 projects in diverse areas, with an aggregate throughput of over 10 PetaFLOPS.=0A=0AThis tutorial will teach participants how to use BOINC, the leading software platform for volunteer computing. BOINC is open-source software, funded by NSF and developed at UC Berkeley. We will cover the process of setting up a BOINC server, porting applications, and processing jobs.
